My name is Matt and I am a 26 year old Industrial Designer from Brisbane, Australia. My passion for design stems from a lifetime of being unable to have the tools required to perform at the highest level in my sport of Archery. I have always used design as a tool to create working and practical solutions for problems that both myself and many others face. I have a thirst for understanding why a problem exists and continually strive to find and develop solutions to these problems.

My area of expertise is inclusive design. I think the most important thing we as designers can strive for is the ability to make every single user of our products feel as if they were the person we were thinking of during the design process. This leads to better products, better experiences and stronger bonds with the products we create.

2013 - 2016
AUSTAR COAL MINE
Apprentice Electrician
During my time at Austar I completed a Certificate IV in Electrotechnology, however, due to a back injury was never able to complete the apprenticeship. In this position I was involved in a number of installation projects that taught me a great deal about time management in the professional environment. I was also given the responsibility of general maintenance codes on the belt system which further increased my time management skills along with my problem solving skills, often having to make repairs on the go so as not to run into any downtime.

BEGAN ARCHERY
In late 2003 I completed a beginners course at my local archery range and began a lifelong obsession with high performance sport.

In this position I learnt a great deal about working face to face with customers, understanding their needs and requirements and then filling those needs. This position also helped me expand on my existing knowledge of the mechanics of all bow types.

NATIONAL TILES
Retail Sales and Design Assistant
Working with National Tiles has allowed me to expand on my own design philosophy through helping customers choose the tiles that will feature in their homes. It has also taught me about how design fits within the overall context of a job, as well as the timing demands in these jobs, i.e. getting a customers tiles moved and delivered in time for the builders and tilers.
